Courseware
Objectives & Target Group
This is the first in a series of programs that are to form a
courseware for Learning Arabic as a Second Language. It is suitable for non-Arab Moslems,
second generation Arabs living abroad as well as to all those who are interested in the
Middle East.
Catering to
Learners' Global needs
The 'Learn Arabic' program aims at creating a comprehensive
learning environment that satisfies the diverse requirements of learners. Whereas the
program revolves around the 'Arabic Lessons', three complementary components are added to
supplement the educational part; namely, a cultural component, a religious one as well as
a keyboard tutor. The cultural component re-enforces the link between language and
culture. It provides useful linguistic information related to the origin and development
of the Arabic language. Through it learners are introduced to the Arab and Islamic
civilization. An introduction to Classical Arabic is provided by the second component
which relates to the Koran. It supplies interested learners with educational tools in a
religious environment. Finally, learning Arabic on the computer necessitates familiarity
with the Arabic keyboard, and to facilitate this task, an Arabic Keyboard Tutor is added.
This makes the 'Learn Arabic' courseware, the first to cater to the global needs of
non-Arab learners.
